The world’s oldest film festival “The Cannes Film Festival” was founded in 1946. It is held each year at the Palais des Festivals et des Congres in the town of Cannes in the South of France. Cannes encourages the notion that European cinema is “art” cinema.
For 2010, the 63rd. edition of the festival will take place from 12th. May to 23rd. May.
This year the President of the Jury will be Tim Burton, the American film director, producer, writer and artist. His first film was Pee-wee’s Big Adventure and since then he has directed and produced numerous films, many of which have won Academy Awards. He is known for his dark and quirky-themed films, such as Beetlejuice, Edward Scissorhands and The Nightmare Before Christmas, and for his blockbusters, including Batman, Batman Returns, Sleepy Hollow, Planet of the Apes, and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

Palme d’Or – Golden Palm. This is the highest award for the best film.
